When to Send Wedding Invitations & RSVPs (Full Guide)

It’s official, you’ve set the date for your wedding, it’s locked in Eddy! Now it’s time to organise your wedding stationery which includes a save the date card, your wedding invitation and you’ll also need to set the RSVP date. If that list is stressing you out don’t worry, the Gabbinbar Homestead wedding planning team have you covered. Here’s your guide of what to send and when for your wedding stationery.
1. FIRST CAB OFF THE RANK IS OF COURSE YOUR SAVE THE DATE CARD
With your guest list complete, save the date cards are a fun and practical way to tell your friends and family they’re VIP – officially on the guest list for your wedding day. So, when do you need to send the save the date card? If you are planning a destination wedding, we would recommend sending out your save the date card at least 6 to 12 months before your wedding day. This gives your guests enough time to plan, save and book their travel to attend your wedding. However, if your wedding is local, sending your save the date card between 4 and 6 months before your wedding day will be plenty of time.
2. NEXT UP – YOUR WEDDING INVITATION
Your wedding invitation is the most crucial element of your wedding stationery suite. We’d recommend leaving plenty of time to plan your wedding invitation so it doesn’t become a rush job and you may potentially forget some key details, eek! Traditionally, invitations go out 6 to 8 weeks before the wedding—that gives wedding guests plenty of time to clear their schedules and make travel arrangements if they don't live close by. Your wedding invitation suite traditionally includes the main invitation, a response card, and any other enclosure card containing helpful information for your guests. Remember, you don’t need to follow tradition, we’ve seen some couples create a website which includes all the helpful information for their guests— what a cool idea!
3. SETTING YOUR RSVP DATE
Last but not least you’ll need to set your RSVP date. We would recommend setting the RSVP date for your wedding at least 1 month prior to your wedding date. This will leave you plenty of time to confirm numbers with your venue, work out your seating plan and print your place setting cards.
