What is the history of Gabbinbar?
Gabbinbar’s story begins in 1863 when Reverend William Lambie Nelson established the estate on Toowoomba’s highest ridge. His son, Sir Hugh Nelson, later Premier of Queensland, expanded its legacy as Governors used the homestead for summer retreats and gatherings. A careful restoration began in the late 1990s and continued through to 2012, returning the homestead and gardens to their original beauty. Today, Gabbinbar remains privately owned and lovingly maintained. The estate blends heritage, tranquillity and considered design, creating a setting where modern celebrations rest gently within a long line of stories.
